Benito Zelaya is the firm’s Managing Partner in Honduras. His practice is mainly focused on business law and dispute resolution.

Benito has been trained in international and domestic arbitration, under the rules of ICSID, ICC, CIAC, AAA and by the main centers for conciliation, mediation and arbitration in the region, respectively in different countries such as Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Panama, and USA.

He was a member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 2018 to 2021 representing Honduras. Since 2022, he has been a Country Representative for the Dispute Board Foundation. He is a member of Alarb Next Generation and the Latin American International Arbitration. Benito is the founder and president of the Spanish Arbitration Club in the Honduran chapter, a member of the Arbitrators Group of Central America and the Caribbean, and a member of the Latin American Construction Law Association. Additionally, he is a lecturer in the Master’s program in Commercial Law at the National Autonomous University of Honduras. He has been a member of the board of young entrepreneurs in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tegucigalpa.

His experience has been developed throughout the Central American region, structuring projects in corporate and regulatory law, such as dispute resolution. During his practice he has acted as an arbitrator, consultant, advisor, adjudicator and litigator for different institutions in the commercial, banking, construction, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, energy, mining and NGO sector.

In addition to his legal practice, Benito Zelaya is a speaker on topics such as regulatory law, commercial law, infrastructure, and dispute resolution methods, among others. He participates in various forums across Ibero-America, invited by universities, arbitration centers, chambers of commerce, among others.

Education:
  • Bachelor of Legal and Social Sciences from Dr. José Matías Delgado University in El Salvador;
  • LLM in Corporate Law from the Catholic University of Chile.
  • Master’s in Business Management from the Central American Technological University in Honduras;
  • PhD in Taxation and Commercial Law from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala.
  • Specialization in International Business from Georgetown University in the United States.
  • Specialization in civil procedural law, mediation, and arbitration.
  • He has attended the Commercial Arbitration seminar at American University Washington College of Law.
